- Training Sessions For The Taiwan Systems Approach Anyone wishing
to perform orchard or bin sampling must attend training at least every other
year unless you are a licensed PCO. Training sessions are free, but
pre-registration is recommended due to space limitations. Also, all
packinghouses must have at least 2 certified cull cutters. If your cutters
need re-certification, they may attend the sessions indicated by a red
asterisk or contact your local WSDA inspection office. To reserve space or ask

- HAACP Training A two day HAACP Certification Training will be
available to GRAS2P specialists and other interested tree fruit
industry members. HAACP is a management system in which food safety is
addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and
physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to
manufacturing, distribution, and consumption of finished product. The training
will take place August 17-18, 2009 in Ellensburg. Dr. Richard Dougherty
(Professor and Extension Food Science Specialist at WSU) will conduct the
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point training. A reduced registration fee is
available for WSHA members. For more information and registration, please

- WSHA 16th Annual Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament Results The
16th Annual Washington State Horticultural Association Memorial Scholarship
Golf Tournament, held August 4th in Chelan, was a huge success with many
industry members taking part in the day. Approximately $17,000 was netted from
the tournament, which will help with student scholarships in the name of past
tree fruit industry leaders: Gerald Nolen, Melvin Crowder, Jim Matson and
Delmar Smith. WSHA would especially like to thank our headline tournament
